artist to designer…

I was always heavily involved in fine art, but within my first year of college, I quickly made the transition to graphic design — it’s funny how it happened, read on.

the art…

This chalk pastel drawing was my first self portrait during college, and while working meticulously to get the colors just right, I remember thinking — I want to make this my life; live in the brightest and most beautiful place all the time.

About a year later, completely consumed by art and basic design, not totally sure where I was heading career wise, I applied for the BFA program at school.

After being accepted into the program, I realized my classes were changing, less fine art and more design. How though? I picked bFA.

Not until the following semester I realized it was a Bachelor of Fine Art with a specialization in graphic design — I inherently chose a design career, but as fate would have it, it chose me. Because it reminded me of what I always knew as a little girl I wanted to do — “draw and make designs on the computer”.

And design…

Over the last 17 years of my professional design career I’ve hopped around working in different digital and print mediums, with different industries, wearing a lot of hats, usually because if you step up to the plate and succeed, it becomes part of your day-to-day.

My approach when designing is how can I improve this in a politely, yet disruptive way. Behind the visuals, and colors, when you see great design, you know it. It makes you think, you get the AHA moment, you’re connected, and that 1 second of connection between myself and the audience is why I’m still searching and still exploring for the next best thing.

My design career I’ve mostly been the designer, but have worked with many cross-functional teams in different industries, B2B, B2C, D2C, MLM; and it’s taught me to use experience and expertise to communicate information effectively to my target audience, elevate brands through improving processes, streamline production, and ensure accuracy.

At the end of the day 90% isn’t enough for me. I want the best I can possibly achieve, and I’m still searching,
